I am sure there are some old Wood's Ladder players out there viewing this......If any one is interested in their old "Wood's Ladder Records" records, let me know and I will see what I can find.
I believe a portion of the records are lost, but I believe I have a major portion of them. Earl kept a page on each individual, and all of their matches.
Anyone remember their first, or early matches on Wood's ?
Mine was with C. Ellis Beaver, and he wrote me entire letters with each set of moves sent....he told me how he quit playing when he turned 40 (in 1940, IIRC , he was born in 1900) and took the game up again in the 1980's, over 40 year hiatus !!
He wrote me how he had played Harry Freedman a mail match...( I believe he said Freedman was living in South Africa at the time). The same Freedman who once played Richard Jordan for the World Championship in 1902 !!!
This blew my mind, thinking that I now had somewhat of a lineage to a major figure from Checkers History......and my interest in the game's history was born.....
Any other Wood's players out there ??
